After the meeting of the owners of pharmaceutical factories with the Scientific Council of Medicine, and its demand to raise the prices of medicines by 100%, the Syrian Pharmacists Syndicate submitted a written request asking the Ministry of Health to raise the percentage of its profits.
The head of the Syrian Pharmacists Syndicate, Dr. Wafaa Keshi, said that the Syndicate submitted a written request three months ago, explaining the pharmaceutical reality in Syria, and the interruption of many pharmaceutical groups as a result of the economic depletion of the pharmaceutical industry, due to the siege the country is witnessing.
Keshi added, in a special statement to “Hashtag“, that the topic of the meeting of the directors of pharmaceutical laboratories was inevitable, and their demands are clear and need no explanation.
As for the profit bracket allocated to pharmacists, Keshi confirmed that it is insufficient under the current circumstances, indicating that the 13% profit has not been adjusted since 2009.
Keshi indicated that the issue needs a “wise solution” from the ministry, as she described it, explaining that the union put the Ministry of Health in front of reality.
According to the head of the Syrian Pharmacists Syndicate, many medicines were lost from the market due to the pharmacists’ inability to replace the medicines sold, due to their low profits.
