Special sources on the Syrian-Jordanian border told Hashtag that the decision to close the Jaber border crossing could last more than a week.

Yesterday, an official source in the Jordanian Ministry of Interior said that the Jaber border crossing will be temporarily closed to the movement of goods and passengers, as a result of the developments in the security situation on the Syrian side.

The source added that the Jaber crossing will be reopened if the appropriate conditions are available.

However, the private sources indicated to “hashtag” that the previous incidents that took place on the Syrian borders could be a reason for delaying the decision to reopen the borders between the two countries.

The sources added that the crossing will be reopened as soon as the appropriate conditions are in place.

Daraa Governorate, in southern Syria, adjacent to the Jordanian border, has witnessed tension since the early hours of Thursday morning, starting from the eastern countryside of the province, passing through the city and reaching the western countryside, between government forces and their security services on the one hand, and armed groups on the other.

Moreover, families of civilians from the Daraa al-Balad area began to return to their homes today, after they left them a few days ago towards the Daraa al-Mahatta area due to security tensions.

The people began to return with the state of relative calm prevailing in the area, and an official source in Daraa quoted as saying that the military abductees who were kidnapped the day before yesterday by the gunmen had been liberated.

At this time, the International Special Envoy for Syria Geir Pedersen announced that he is following with concern the developments in Daraa and said that he is in active contact with the concerned parties to stop the violence, calling for calm.

Pedersen explained in a statement published on his official website, that he stresses on all parties the obligation to adhere to the principle of protecting civilians and international humanitarian law and the humanitarian dimension of the situation, noting that the current escalation illustrates the need for everyone in Syria to agree on a nationwide ceasefire in line with International Resolution 2254. According to him.
