Sources in the Ministry of Electricity said that the government is about to issue a decision obligating industrialists to use alternative energies (solar and wind) instead of electric energy.

Al-Watan newspaper quoted the source as saying that “the project will begin by obligating industrialists to partially use alternative energy as an initial stage, leading to the transformation of industrial facilities from electricity to renewable energies once and for all.”

The source estimated the industry’s current consumption at about 20 percent of the total electricity currently available, and the draft decision coincides with the expansion of reliance on renewable energies amid a severe crisis in feeding most regions with electricity.

It is noteworthy that the “National Center for Energy Research” said that about half of the solar panels in the market are of unknown specifications, pointing out that they entered the country without the knowledge of the center and possibly illegally.
