The Minister of Internal Trade and Consumer Protection denied the statement of the Damascus Chamber of Commerce made by a member of the of Directors Board of it, Yasser Karim, in which he attributed the reason for the loss of oil to the fact that the Ministry of Economy only allowed two traders to import sunflower oil.
Minister Salem indicated in a post on his personal page on “Facebook” that the statement is false and irresponsible and does not accept that it be issued by a member of the Chamber of Commerce’s board of directors.
Salem confirmed that all import, port and customs licenses are documented in numbers, revealing that the sunflower oil refining and bottling factories in Syria have imported 58,000 tons, worth 43 million euros, from the beginning of the current year 2021 until September 30 of this year, distributed among nine factories.
He continued: As for the import licenses for sunflower oil, their quantities amounted to 109 thousand tons, with a total value of more than 64 million euros distributed among a number of traders, not two or three traders.
Salem stressed that other than that is false talk aimed at creating confusion and justifying the monopoly of all these quantities that the state allowed to import and secured the necessary foreign exchange for them, noting that the ministry collected all the data of those who imported these huge quantities.
Minister Salem stressed the monopolists of the substance to put it on the market during the next few days, threatening that the ministry will use the provisions of the law and decree 8 that allow the minister to take all necessary measures to provide foodstuffs to citizens, in addition to the positive role that the ministry plays by offering sunflower oil in the halls ( Syrian Trade).
