The Criminal Security Branch in Latakia arrested 4 people working on the manufacture of adulterated “frying oil” inside a facility intended for the manufacture of detergents in the city.
The Ministry of Interior stated, through a post on its Facebook account, that the Criminal Security in Lattakia seized a facility for the manufacture of adulterated frying oil, placed it inside plastic containers, and affixed a forged brand on it, and then sold it to food stores within the city of Lattakia.
The ministry added that the police arrested 4 people: (Hussein. A), (Munir. A), (Ahmed. A) and (Ahmed. A), and by interrogating them, they confessed that they had manufactured adulterated oil in a detergent manufacturing facility belonging to one of them for a meeting. A sum of 600,000 Syrian pounds to allow them to work within his shop.
According to the four’s confession, the adulterated oil is made by mixing drinking water with colored food dye, then filling it with plastic containers, and placing counterfeit labels of a well-known brand on these containers, which are printed at a printing house in the city of Aleppo.
After the completion of the process, parcels of adulterated oil are sold to many stores in the city of Latakia and its countryside, as well as in the governorates of Aleppo and Hama, at a price of 100,000 Syrian pounds per parcel, while providing the shop owners with fake invoices.
And the Criminal Security Branch was able to seize only 58 adulterated oil bottles, and handed them over to the Directorate of Internal Trade and Consumer Protection in the city after sealing the aforementioned facility with red wax.
The prices of vegetable oil in the Syrian market witnessed a remarkable increase, as the price of a liter of oil today ranges between 10 and 11 thousand pounds and varies from one store to another.
