A young Syrian woman enters the Guinness Book of Records with the largest “mandala” painting

The young Syrian artist, Lama Zakaria, registered her name in the Guinness Book of Records after setting a record for drawing the largest painting of mandala circles.

4096 circle mandala

According to the official Syrian agency “SANA”, the young artist was able to draw 4,096 mandala circles of various diameters, colors and decorations, the largest with a diameter of two meters and the smallest with a diameter of 2 cm, on 8 MDF boards to assemble them together with an area of approximately 25 square meters.
The completion took 5 months
Lama said that she planned her distinguished artistic work for about two years, and that her painting took about 5 months of actually working, with an average of 6 hours of daily work.

The Syrian artist worked on the completion of her masterpiece in her small studio in the town of Deir Attieh in the countryside of Damascus, and for this work she used acrylic colors to draw single, non-repetitive and different circles from each other.

The Internet is an essential reference

The artist indicated that she was able to overcome the difficulties to achieve this achievement through two years of training and gaining experience, and she benefited from the Internet, which was her main reference to develop herself in this type of art.

special day

“The night I achieved the record was very exceptional. My family and I did not sleep, and perhaps the entire city… Words betrayed me when my achievement made the headlines saying (Syria achieves the Guinness World Records title), this is without a doubt one of the happiest moments of my life,” she said.
She said in a press interview on the subject: “The mandala chose me, not I.
She explained: The topic started completely while I was drawing some decorations on the edge of a textbook, then I came across a similar drawing on the Internet, and I searched more to discover that it is an art in itself, and from here was the beginning.

Lama is currently studying architecture at Al-Baath University in Homs, Syria, and seeks to try to achieve a new record in 2023, which she will announce soon.
