Cholera-causing bacteria discovered in turtles in Wuhan, China

The discovery of a bacteria in the Chinese city of Wuhan, which caused a student to contract cholera, alarmed the Chinese, and some linked it to Covid-19.
It was found separately in samples of soft-bodied turtles in a food market.

The local authorities said that the food market was disinfected, as samples of soft turtles were found to contain a cholera germ.

Although no human cases of cholera were detected among those who had contact with soft turtles, the authorities ordered the closure of the section that sells them in the market for a period of 3 days.
The authorities indicated that there was no link between the strain of bacteria that caused cholera in the aforementioned student and the samples discovered in the food market.
The disease control authority in Wuhan’s Hongshan District said officials are also tracing unspecified products from the same shipment of soft turtles that were transported elsewhere.

more trending topic

Although there are no strong indications of an outbreak of cholera, internet users’ concern about another outbreak has put it among the most popular topics on the Chinese social networking site Weibo.
And sources in the city of Wuhan, which has a population of more than 12 million people, said last Monday that the university student infected with cholera did not cause more infections.
