Today, Saturday, Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud announced that his country is officially going through a famine, calling for a quick local and international response.
In a video recording, the Somali president revealed deaths related to starvation and a lack of basic materials in the country, according to “Reuters”.
International media reports indicated that the Somali president’s admission of his country’s entry into famine, confirms the devastating impact of the drought on Somalis.
More than 7 million Somalis face severe food shortages, with nearly half a million entering famine, as a result of many factors, most notably the lack of rain.
The Arab League States reported earlier that Somalia is close to a real famine as a result of the lack of rain, which could put millions at risk.
The Arab League considered that if the Somalis did not find their strength because of that famine, members of the people and tribes would turn to “works that could not be acceptable.”
The Arab League pointed out that these actions could affect the Red Sea region, East Africa, the Arabian Peninsula and Yemen, as a result of the migration of millions of people in search of food.
The Arab League explained that the Somali issue was discussed in the consultative meeting of Arab foreign ministers, noting that there are some basic ideas related to helping the Somali people.
