89 ships in one day without waiting: a new record for navigation traffic in the Suez Canal

The head of the Suez Canal Authority, Osama Rabie, said that the navigation movement in the canal recorded today, Saturday, the highest daily transit rate of ships transiting in the history of the canal, with 89 ships crossing from both directions without waiting, with a total net tonnage of 5.2 million tons.
The number of ships transiting the canal from the north was 44 ships with a net tonnage of 3 million tons.
While 45 ships crossed from the south direction of the new navigational course of the canal, with a total net tonnage of 2.2 million tons.
The head of the authority explained that the daily transit rates through the Suez Canal witnessed a significant increase after the opening of the new Suez Canal project; The average daily transit of ships crossing the canal increased from 48 ships before the new canal project to 62 ships today.
The head of the authority stressed that the record numbers recorded by the navigation movement in the canal would not have been achieved without the new Suez Canal project, which succeeded in increasing the capacity of the canal and raising its efficiency to receive the current and future generations of giant ships with huge payloads and large submersibles that global ship arsenals are heading towards building to take advantage of economies of scale.
The shipping traffic from the north was led by the giant container ship “Cosco Shopping Pieces”, with a total tonnage of 202,000 tons, on its next voyage from the United Kingdom to Singapore.

It is noteworthy that the navigation movement in the canal recorded the transit of various types of giant ships, as 23 container ships and 23 bulk ships crossed, in addition to the crossing of 24 general and multi-purpose cargo ships and other types, as well as the transit of 14 oil tankers, and 3 LNG carriers.
