A new slap: Syrian sport faces the threat of suspension by the International Federation

Federation

The International Handball Federation sent a strongly worded letter to the General Sports Federation after dissolving the Handball Federation in Syria and asked the International Federation to return the Federation to its work and deal in a legal manner with this sensitive file, with clarifications provided.
This message constitutes a threat to Syrian sport as a whole, not just football or handball, because of what is called government interference in the work of sports federations.
A number of sports media professionals quoted the International Handball Federation that the dismissal was not legal, especially as it came with an official letter from the General Sports Federation under the name “Dissolving the Board of Directors of the Syrian Arab Handball Federation and forming a committee to manage the affairs of the Federation,” as international law indicates to the necessity of holding a general assembly to decide the fate of any union without the intervention of a third party.
According to reports, the International Handball Federation is expected to escalate to address the International Olympic Committee in the event that the General Sports Federation continues its decision.
The letter from the International Federation, according to journalist Mazen Al Rayes, stated: Please note that according to Article 8 of the IHF Statute, member federations must comply with all provisions stipulated in the Statute, in particular with Article 8.2, point 4 which states:
The International Handball Federation rejects any kind of interference in the internal affairs of the Syrian Arab Handball Federation and we ask the Olympic Committee and the Syrian General Sports Federation to kindly start work immediately to restore the current board of directors of the Syrian Arab Handball Federation.
We kindly ask you to comply with the provisions of the IHF Statutes and to inform us at your convenience and as soon as possible about the measures taken to reinstate the current Board of Directors for Handball.
The International Federation published a set of documents documenting the international message and warning against repeating the Kuwaiti experience, where sports activity was suspended for more than a year due to government interventions.
