A photo of “Captain” Maya Ghazal with Tom Cruise provokes a great interaction among the Syrians: We are proud of you

A photo published by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, which gathered the Syrian pilot, Maya Ghazal, and the American actor Tom Cruise, a wave of positive and welcoming reactions.
The UNHCR commented on the photo, that Ghazal is the first Syrian refugee woman to become a pilot, and her message was “Heaven for all”.
Ghazal’s meeting with Cruz took place on the sidelines of the Formula 1 Grand Prix, where Ghazal posted a picture on her Instagram account alongside Lewis Hamilton’s car, and thanked the Mercedes team for the invitation.

Who is Maya Ghazal?
Maya Ghazal, at the age of 16, left her home in Damascus in 2015 and started a new life in the UK to study aeronautical engineering at Brunel University, fulfilling her dream of becoming the first Syrian refugee pilot.
Maya, recipient of the Princess Diana Legacy Award, is a prominent advocate for refugee rights and has been supporting UNHCR since 2017.
Maya also supported UNHCR during World Refugee Day by attending events including a UNHCR reception at the Palace of Westminster, via media and social media.
The first female refugee to fly a plane
On World Refugee Day, Maya became the first Syrian refugee to fly a plane after she flew her first solo flight in a private plane in 2019, and obtained a pilot’s license, and she aspires to obtain a commercial aviation license.
Then, in an interview with British Vogue magazine, she said, “I would like to get a commercial license. Then, one day I would like to be able to land a plane in Syria.”
The United Nations appointed Maya Ghazal as a Goodwill Ambassador for the year 2021, and Maya did not stop her activities in the field of supporting refugees around the world.
