A Syrian-Iranian agreement to resume religious tourism: 100,000 visitors

Damascus and Tehran made an agreement to resume religious tourism between the two countries, provided that, in the first phase of the agreement, Iran will send 100,000 Iranians to Syria to visit religious sites.
And Iranian television quoted the head of the Iranian Hajj and Visit Organization, Ali Reza Rashidian, as saying that during his visit, he signed an agreement in this regard with the Minister of Tourism, Muhammad Rami Martini.
Rashidian arrived in Damascus last Sunday, and was received by the Iranian ambassador to Syria, the Syrian assistant minister of tourism and head of the minister’s office.
During the visit, Rashidian discussed with Syrian officials the required preparations for resuming tourist trips to Syria and visiting the tombs of Sayyida Zainab and Lady Ruqayya, peace be upon them.
Rashidian added that the Syrian government pledged under the agreement to provide all security and health measures regarding the Corona virus for all Iranian visitors.
Tourism Minister Rami Martini expressed Damascus’ desire to “quickly run these trips”, pointing out that his ministry encouraged Syrian tourism offices to plan to receive Iranian “tourists” in the near future.
The Iranian Hajj and Visitation Organization has not yet announced the date of the resumption of religious trips to Syria.
