A Syrian minister accuses Turkey of “robbery” of a Syrian share of the Euphrates water

In the first reaction of a Syrian official to the low level of the Euphrates River in Syria, the Minister of Water Resources, Tamam Raad, accused Turkey, on Thursday, of robbing large quantities of Syria’s share of the Euphrates water.
According to SANA, he called for releasing the Euphrates water according to the fair share determined for both Syria and Iraq, calling on the international community and international organizations to intervene in the issue of the low level of the Euphrates River due to Turkey’s reservation of water.
The minister’s statements came during a tour he made today in Deir Ezzor Governorate.
Raad stressed the need to intervene to restore the flow of the Euphrates River to what it was.
And he warned that the continuation of the situation as it is threatening water security in Raqqa, Deir Ezzor and Hasaka.
“The decrease in the drainage of the Euphrates River to less than 50% of the imports from the point of entry of the river into the Syrian lands was reflected in the decrease in the drainage in the riverbed at different levels and locations for drinking and irrigation water stations” he added.
