Turkey’s Minister of Family and Social Affairs, Darya Yanik, has pledged to clear Turkey of Syrian refugees within one year.
During her participation in the opening of a home for the elderly in the city of Adana, located in the south of the country on the border with Syria, where Syrian refugees are located in a large number, Darya Yanik said that Turkey will be free of Syrian refugees by next 2023.
Next year, Turkey will witness crucial presidential and parliamentary elections, in which Syrian refugees will become a subject of controversy for the ruling Justice and Development Party and the parties that oppose it alike.
During its participation in the opening of a home for the elderly, the ministry supported the upcoming Turkish operation that Turkey has been threatening to launch against the “Syrian Democratic Forces” for more than three months.
It considered the operation necessary to prevent the establishment of a “terrorist state” on Turkey’s southern borders, referring to the areas that the Syrian Kurds manage with their local allies in the “Autonomous Administration” of northern and eastern Syria.
In her speech during a press conference, the Turkish minister added: “We will intensify our efforts and work with all our energy so that there are no Syrians left on our land after 2023.”
But the issue of expelling Syrian refugees from Turkey in large numbers appears to be very difficult, according to what a Turkish political analyst describes.
Meanwhile, Turkish political analyst Hadiya Levent said, “Minister Yanik’s statements represent the official position of the Turkish government and the ruling party on the issue of the presence of Syrian refugees in the country.”
