After “accusations of abuse of power”, the Director of Tax Inquiry at the Ministry of Finance is suspended

The Syrian Finance Minister, Kinan Yaghi, Head of Tax Inquiry in the Central Administration of the Ministry of Finance, Ghaith Abboud, was suspended from work.
His assistant, Abdul Rahman Muhammad Al-Rifai, was assigned to run the affairs of the Directorate, in addition to his work as an assistant director in the Tax Inquiry Directorate.
Informed sources indicated to “Hashtag” that the exemption was caused by a complaint submitted by a Damascus merchant, including accusations of abuse of power. The sources added that investigations are continuing.
The Tax Inquiry Directorate has great powers that enabled its members to raid and inspect shops with the aim of “fighting tax evasion.”
The Ministry of Finance launched, late last year, a wide campaign to pursue tax evaders.
At that time, the Tax Commission carried out a tour of the industrial facilities in the Sheikh Najjar Industrial City in Aleppo, and recorded many seizures with sums of money estimated at billions to be fulfilled within a specific deadline.
Among the industrialists affected by the campaign was Hisham Dahmane, who responded to the decision to close his facility.
Dahmane died in August of last year, shortly after being asked to pay billions of Syrian pounds in taxes.
Local media and pages said that the director of Dahman Company for the manufacture of plastic products, Hisham Dahman, died as a result of a heart attack he suffered after being asked to pay large sums.
Dahman had announced last June the closure of his factory in the industrial city of Sheikh Najjar after a committee from the Finance asked him to pay several billion in taxes.
