A Gulf diplomatic source revealed international efforts to extend the armistice in Yemen for 6 months at once, starting from October 2, next.
The source, who asked not to be named, added that the parties concerned with the armistice in Yemen had reached the “consensus stage”, and that they were “awaiting an answer from the Houthis” regarding the extension of the armistice for six months, based on the terms of the armistice that is currently in effect.
The source said, “Among the items is the opening of roads and crossings, especially in Taiz Governorate.”
Al-Sharq learned that regional and international parties are seeking a prolonged truce that would open the door to a new round of talks that would bring together the Yemeni government and the Houthis, and pave the way for stabilizing the situation in Yemen, which would contribute to supporting efforts aimed at the development and reconstruction of Yemen.
Agence France-Presse reported that about thirty humanitarian and international organizations operate inside Yemen; It called on the parties to the conflict to “extend the armistice for a period of six months or more,” while observing and fulfilling all its provisions.
These organizations noted in a joint statement that “the number of civilian casualties has decreased significantly since the start of the truce.”
The Council welcomed the announcement by the United Nations that the parties to the conflict agreed to extend the armistice for an additional two months, starting from 2 August.
The armistice agreement included a commitment by the Houthis and the Yemeni government to intensify negotiations, to reach an expanded armistice agreement as soon as possible.
