The Minister of Internal Trade and Consumer Protection, Amr Salem, said that he does not promise not to raise the price of anything، “But I assure that any increase will only be for what cannot be raised. I promise that every price increase for any material will be in return for an improvement in the citizen’s ability and the quality of what he obtains, and to ensure that nothing is lost from the markets,” he added.
Salem wrote on his Facebook page that he will not stop communicating with citizens via Facebook, although some advise him not to communicate directly because this (in their opinion) comes with offensive comments and reactions.
Salem revealed that he knows the source of the offensive comments, and they are from within the ministry and its institutions who have been excluded because of their negligence, corruption, or mistreatment of citizens.
“Citizens have the right to complain about everything that is negative, and it is our duty to take this complaint seriously and to treat every complaint in comments or messages. Whether we respond or not, we do not neglect any complaint and we treat it and make sure of its validity and proceed to address it in order.” He added.
Salem admitted that the prices are high and said: The prices are definitely high, which is a global matter. And when prices rise more than the world, we violate and refer the violators to the judiciary and they are sentenced to imprisonment or fined.
He continued, “The income is certainly not comparable to the global income. But we are the only ones in the world who have been subjected to a war that halted most of our resources, destroyed power stations, mills, silos, and furnaces, and ruined the values and morals of many, unfortunately.
Salem indicated that the government does not intend to reduce the subsidy, and the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund cannot impose or lift the subsidy policy on us.
He considered that Syrian citizens are more capable than analysts, misleaders and blackmailers. No matter how large the system of corruption and low values is, the citizens are greater than them and the state is greater than them.
Whatever those who want to destroy the public sector and prevent it from exercising its role in providing the basics to citizens, I assure them that they will not succeed and they will see the result of their work. The state mills, state bakeries, and state halls will continue to provide food security while increasing and improving.” he said.Salem concluded: We are all angry citizens. But we are angry at those who got us us into this situation. And I swear by God that they and their followers will not be able to prevent us from being honest servants of our great people.
