Appointment of a new Director General of Customs .. Who is Majed Omran?

Prime Minister Hussein Arnous issued a decision yesterday appointing Majed Omran to the post of Director General of Customs.

Imran has held the position of Director of Customs in the capital, Damascus, since 2018, when he was in charge of running the business of this institution, before it was officially installed in 2020.

In early May, Arnous issued a decision whereby the former Director of Customs, Fawaz Asaad, was removed from his post, after nearly four years of assuming this position.

Informed sources and follow-up of the customs file had revealed to the hashtag, at the time, that the customs director was dismissed due to his negative role and failure to fight corruption in this vital sector.

The sources pointed out that Fawaz Asaad was unable to control smuggling and his measures did not succeed in draining the sources of smuggling, which affected the markets and their movement.

The sources added that the Director of Customs also did not succeed in controlling the work of the customs brokers network or dismantling the corrupt groups within the customs sector.

It is noteworthy that the dismissal of Fawaz Asaad came in conjunction with the dismissal of the governor of the Central Bank, Hazem Karfoul.
