Arnous to the Syrians: I cannot confirm that prices will decrease during Ramadan

The Prime Minister, Hussein Arnous, confirmed that the prices of most basic commodities and materials in Syria will remain unchanged and will not decrease in the coming days.
Most materials and commodities have witnessed a significant jump in their prices in the recent period, by more than 50% for some of them, which the government responded to the effects of the Russian-Ukrainian war.
Arnous said during the weekly cabinet session, yesterday, Tuesday, that we cannot confirm the existence of price reductions during the month of Ramadan, but there will certainly not be an increase, according to the Syrian newspaper Al-Watan.
The Prime Minister considered that “the rise and fall of prices is related to the cost factors of the raw materials involved in the production process.”
Arnous said that the government does not have large profit margins until it lowers prices, and that profits are few, explaining that during the session the government agreed to form a committee tasked with following up the management of corporate assets.
Arnous asked the relevant ministries to intensify the monitoring tours of the markets and to ensure compliance with the official price bulletin, and despite Arnous’ assurances, the markets are witnessing chaos in the pricing of materials, especially the basic ones.
The owners of economic actors object to the “Supply Authority” pricing on the grounds that it is less than the costs, and they affirm that there are many details and costs that are not noticed in the pricing, the least of which are the long hours of power cuts, which makes working hours limited for workers, in addition to the fuel crisis and the resulting rise For transportation costs and other things.
The prices of most basic commodities and materials in the Syrian market witnessed an unprecedented rise, coinciding with the launch of the Russian military operation in Ukraine, while the prices of vegetables and fruits rose due to the weather that controlled Syria recently.
