Harvesting operations continue in Syria, and the marketing of the wheat crop, in light of great competition between the Syrian government and the so-called “autonomous administration of the regions of northeastern Syria” to receive the crop.
Government figures indicate that about 300,000 tons have been received so far, while the Farmers’ Union expects the marketed quantities to reach 700,000 tons of wheat.
Hama is the first
The Farmers’ Union stated that the highest percentage of wheat marketing was from Hama governorate, which amounted to more than 103.2 thousand tons, followed by Aleppo (92 thousand tons), while the lowest percentage was from Quneitra governorate, where it did not exceed 64 tons only.
The Syrian government has designated 49 grain receiving centers in various governorates.
The director of the Syrian Grain Corporation said that the daily movement of incoming cars to the centers is estimated at between 150 and 200 cars.

Some farmers revealed that the prices announced by the Kurdish Autonomous Administration of wheat are different from what is being paid to farmers.
While it announced a price of 2,200 Syrian pounds per kilo after the Syrian government priced a kilo of wheat at 2,100 pounds, some farmers mentioned that the highest price in the bills given to farmers did not exceed 1,600 pounds.
And the Kurdish administration classifies wheat below the first grade in order not to get the highest price.
The director of the Syrian Grain branch in al-Hasakah, Abdullah Abdullah, said in a statement to “Tishreen newspaper” that the SDF imposes a prison sentence and a large fine in hard currency on those who market to Syrian grain centers, as part of the plan to “seize Syrian wheat,” he said.
Abdullah indicated that the Syrian government provides a lot of facilities to receive the crop, but the marketed quantities have not yet exceeded 5,700 tons, while the quantities produced by Al-Hasakah alone exceeded one million tons.

Among the facilities provided is also the contentment of the personal card to purchase the offered quantities and without a certificate of origin or any other document.
The production of all licensed and unlicensed areas is received, in addition to transferring the values of the marketed quantities to any branch specified by the producer from the branches of public and private banks.
Purchase invoices are disbursed within a maximum period of one week only from the date of marketing.
The Syrian government considered all areas of the province to be “unsafe” for producers to benefit from the financial reward allocated for this and to purchase one kilogram at a price of 2,100 Syrian pounds.

Among the facilities provided by the Syrian government this year is also allowing farmers, in a first-of-its-kind manner, to borrow empty bags without paying the price on the sponsorship of the agricultural organization, provided that the price of the bags is collected from the first purchase list received.

As it happens every year, the fires had their share, as fires this season affected 320 hectares of wheat in various Syrian governorates.
These areas are out of the total area that has been planted with wheat, amounting to more than one million hectares, according to the statements of the Ministry of Agriculture.
The problems of transportation and securing fuel were among the most prominent difficulties that farmers faced in this season, with the intensification of the fuel crisis and the shortage reaching unprecedented levels.
