The Syrian Democratic Forces launched an operation targeting the sleeper cells of the terrorist organization “ISIS” in the “Al-Hol” camp in northeastern Syria, due to the escalation and the increase in violence.
The spokesman for the Internal Security Forces for the so-called “autonomous administration” Ali al-Hassan stated that the victims showed signs of “brutal torture,” according to “Reuters”.
Al-Hassan suggested that the victims were killed with silenced pistols or rifles, indicating that their bodies were hidden in sewage pipes.
Al-Hassan pointed out that there has been an increase in the pace of operations inside the camp, compared to last year, especially during and after an attempt to escape from a prison last February.
Al-Hassan pointed out that the perpetrators of the violence in the camp were most likely in contact with ISIS units, which are still moving freely.
It is noteworthy that at least 44 people, including 14 women, were killed this year in the “Al-Hol” camp, which houses displaced people from inside Syria, and the families of suspected ISIS fighters.
About 55,000 people live in the camp, including Syrians, Iraqis and other citizens who fled the areas controlled by the organization, during an attack by the “SDF” against its fighters.
Last June, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees described the situation in the camp as catastrophic, calling for an additional “safe space” to protect women and girls from attacks.
UNHCR stated that humanitarian organizations have been vandalized and equipment looted, and that frequent closures due to security incidents in the camp mean that aid workers are finding it difficult to reach those in need.
