Director of the Cardiac Surgery Hospital in Damascus calls for pressure relief: “Provincial hospitals are not working!”

The Director of the University Cardiac Surgery Hospital in Damascus, Dr. Hossam Khader, said that the pressure is still great on the hospital, despite the exception of the center during the last wave of the Corona virus from receiving cases of infection with the virus.
In statements to “Hashtag”, Khader confirmed that the presence of specialized centers in various governorates that perform various congenital heart surgeries, whether simple or complex, can ease the burden on the University Heart Surgery Hospital.
Khader explained that the suffering is represented by the failure of large sections of governorate hospitals to work, and the “pretext” that there are no specialized centers that conduct this type of operations, with the exception of the University Heart Surgery Hospital, which performed this year 370 congenital heart operations for patients from all governorates, “at an average of 4 operations per year.” The government’s account and 2 on the private account,” in addition to 12 to 15 cardiac catheters, which is a large number, especially with the hospital stopping for a period of time when it was transferred to a reception center for Corona patients.
The only hospital in Syria that performs this type of operation, it can be an obstacle even for patients, amid the high costs of transportation and travel.
Khader points out that some patients cost about 500,000 Syrian pounds as travel fees from one of the northern or eastern regions, and they pay examination and computed tomography fees that do not exceed 16,000 in the hospital. In a way that makes work smoother.”
However, the Director of the Cardiac Surgery Hospital has offered to submit more than once a proposal to send a specialized team from the hospital to other governorates periodically to help, which contributes to relieving pressure on all parties, however, “without an answer so far,” says Khader.
He added that what we need today as a preliminary and urgent step is to perform this type of operation in all hospitals specialized in heart surgery spread in various governorates, pointing to the small size of the University Heart Surgery Hospital, compared to the large volume of work, which led as a natural and inevitable result of this pressure to a delay A large number of operations.
Khader pointed to another important point, related to the wages of open heart operations in private hospitals, which amounted to approximately 20 million pounds, while it does not exceed 500,000 pounds for the private department in the Heart Surgery Hospital, noting that the doctor’s fee for one operation in the center does not exceed 10 thousand pounds in it.
