“Dreams” in Parliament: Demands in the People’s Assembly to raise salaries by 300%

Members of the Syrian People’s Assembly demanded an improvement in the living conditions of citizens and an increase in their salaries, during a session of the Council held today, Sunday, headed by Hammouda Sabbagh.
SANA reported that a number of council members demanded during their interventions to improve the living conditions of citizens and raise the level of salaries and wages by 300% to reduce the gap between income and spending, especially after decisions were issued to raise the prices of gasoline, household gas and diesel.
Council members also called on the Ministry of Health to solve the problem of high drug prices and severe shortages as a result of the high prices of their materials and primary supplies and the suspension of a number of drug laboratories.
A number of council members called for re-examining the price of subsidized octane 90 liter of premium gasoline received on the electronic card and holding workshops for the concerned authorities before issuing any decision and presenting decisions related to living and service affairs to the People’s Assembly for discussion with it before taking them.
Some members stressed the importance of preparing a study on the total prices and new tariffs for all services and goods related to the price of gasoline, showing the repercussions of this on passenger services, vegetables, fruits and other products and food commodities.
A number of members indicated the need for the Monetary and Credit Council to reconsider the decision to set the upper rate for withdrawals from banks at 2 million Syrian pounds, and the upper rate for transferring funds between governorates at 5 million Syrian pounds in terms of raising this limit in both cases, indicating the importance of speeding up the creation of a single window. In each governorate to facilitate obtaining an electronic financial disclosure patent.
While others called for a reconsideration of the study related to the groups not included in the support, stressing the importance of not issuing any decision by the Higher Education Council or the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research to conduct a national examination for graduates of the Faculty of Law in light of what is rumored about the existence of such a decision or a study to be taken and because it is in if it is in violation of the law regulating universities.
Some members stressed the necessity of accelerating the return of the displaced to their villages and liberated areas after rehabilitating them, restoring the infrastructure in them, and securing all services for them wondered how to increase revenues in light of the cessation of many facilities and laboratories as a result of the high prices of oil derivatives and the unavailability of raw materials, calling for an explanation of the reasons for the high rate of deficit in the 2022 budget.
