Egypt aspires to be a regional center for the trading of natural gas

On Sunday, Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shukry announced that his country is working to become a regional center for trading natural gas.

During his speech at the ninth session of the Association Council between Egypt and the European Union, Shoukry affirmed that Egypt has proven that it is a reliable partner of the European Union, according to “Akhbar Al-Youm” newspaper.

The Egyptian Foreign Minister indicated that his country faces great challenges in terms of energy, food and inflation.

The role of the European Union

In turn, the Commissioner for Foreign Policy of the European Union, Josep Borrell, made it clear that the Union is doing everything possible to solve the food crisis.
He indicated that there are European countries ready to secure the sea lanes from Ukraine.
Borrell pointed out that the European Union granted Egypt 100 million euros, for the partnership for the next five years.

Egyptian-Israeli agreement

Earlier, Israeli Energy Minister Karen Elharar signed, with Egyptian and European Union officials, an agreement on the export of Israeli gas to Europe, against the backdrop of the war between Russia and Ukraine.
Recently, media sources said that intensive Israeli talks were held in recent weeks with European Union officials regarding the sale of Israeli gas to Europe after it was transported through a pipeline that already exists in Egypt.

The need for Israeli gas

Recently, Europe has become increasingly interested in the possibility of importing Israeli gas after converting it into liquefied gas in Egypt in the context of diversifying energy sources.
Last month, the European Union’s ambassador to Egypt, Christian Berger, stated that the European Union is negotiating with Egypt and Israel to cooperate in exporting gas to the countries of the continent.
