Several areas in Lattakia countryside were exposed to fires of varying severity today, affecting many villages around the city of Jableh, in the south of the governorate.
According to SANA, members of the firefighting
unit and the Forestry Division in Jableh were able to put out several fires. SANA pointed out that suppression operations are still going on to control a huge fire that broke out in Bustan Al-Basha village in Jableh countryside.
The agency quoted the commander of the Jableh Fire Unit as saying that the firefighting forces were able to put out fires that broke out in Kankar Valley and the villages of Jarna, Qasabin and Qalaa, and a fire near the roadway in the Tadamon neighborhood, at Al-Aqiba Bridge, and in the village of Al-Boudi in the Jableh countryside.
The unit commander added that the firefighting personnel are still continuing their efforts to put out the fire that broke out in the village of Bustan Al-Basha with the participation of helicopters, as it spread to about 50 dunums of citrus trees.
The Syrian coast is exposed to fires at these times of the year, devouring large areas of forests and fruit trees.
In October of last year, the countryside of Lattakia, Tartous, Homs and Hama governorates witnessed fires, according to the statistics of the Ministry of Agriculture, there were 180 fires in 280 villages, as the fires affected 13,000 hectares of agricultural land, and 11,000 hectares of forest areas, in addition to 370 homes. And 7 thousand and 300 beehives, and 47 thousand tons of production is ready for harvest.
