Giant endangered fish sold for $13 in Syria

A giant fish threatened with extinction was sold in the city of Jableh at a price of 50,000 Syrian pounds, equivalent to only 13 dollars.
Four fishermen managed to catch the fish that fishermen call the “giant moon fish”, or the “lunar fish”, which is one of the types that live in the oceans and deep seas.
The fisherman told local Syrian sites that the fish got stuck in the net and hit the boat while it was chasing its dinner, tried a lot to escape from the net and hit the boat several times, adding that the situation held its breath, as if it was a crazy adventure we live in the middle of the sea in a battle between us and it.
It weighs more than 1000 kg and because of its large weight, we could not lift it to the boat, so we pulled the net to the port.

Videos spread on social media showed a crane transporting the fish, which exceeds 1,000 kg, from the port of Jableh.

It is an endangered species that lives in deep water. They sometimes appear near the surface of the water when searching for food or by chasing its food.
The head of the Jableh Fishermen’s Association, Khaled Muthbet, said that it was displayed in the market in the city of Jableh. It was sold for 50 thousand pounds, attributing the reason for its low price to the lack of meat in it.
Mothbet indicated that it is the second time that this type of fish has been caught in the governorate. Pointing out that last year, another one weighing 600 kilograms was caught by a fisherman in Jableh.

Through research on the quality of it, it appears that its meat is not eaten because it contains a large amount of mercury. It is also considered a warm-blooded creature, so it rises to the surface of the water; To warm her vital organs
