Iraqi President Barham Salih warns of the political impasseIraqi President Barham Salih considered that the political impasse in the country is unacceptable.
According to the official Iraqi Agency (INA), Saleh said during the Islamic Conference to Combat Violence against Women that “the country is going through a delicate and sensitive circumstance, serious challenges, and the current political stumbling in the completion of the constitutional national benefits 10 months after the elections is unacceptable.”
“The dialogue option must be victorious, regardless of the degree of crisis and disagreement,” he added.
Saleh stressed that “the political movement and its multiple paths should not turn into a dispute that threatens the integrity of the national project.”
For his part, Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi affirmed that “the political crises in Iraq are unreasonable to remain without solutions.”
He pointed out that “everyone bears the responsibility for finding solutions to this political crisis, away from the language of treason and accusations.”
Since the early parliamentary elections in October 2021, Iraq has witnessed a severe political crisis, as consultations between the political parties to nominate a prime minister did not lead to a result.
The leader of the Sadrist movement, Muqtada al-Sadr, seeks to dissolve parliament and hold new elections.
The demonstrators supporting the Sadrist movement organized protests inside the Green Zone in Baghdad, in protest against the nomination of the “Coordination Framework” coalition, Muhammad Shia Al-Sudani, for the position of prime minister.
While the “coordinating framework” announced its support for any constitutional path to address political crises and achieve the interests of the people, including early elections after achieving national consensus and providing a safe environment.
