The first Syrian to enter the German parliament .. Who is Lamia Kaddour?

Syrian Lamia Kaddour won the German parliament for the first time in the country’s history, in the legislative elections that took place on Sunday.

The writer and researcher in Islamic studies achieved an unprecedented achievement by obtaining a seat in the “Bundestag”, thus becoming the first deputy of Syrian origin.

Kaddour, 43, is a candidate for the “Green” party in Duisburg. She says in her political platform that her goal is to put in place a real immigration law and the formation of a ministry for immigrants and refugees, in addition to working on the naturalization of refugees in a short period.

And work on acceptance of foreign university and professional certificates for refugees, which makes it easier for them to work according to their specializations.

Kaddour faced a shock when five of her students traveled to Syria in 2012 with the aim of “jihad”. She was subjected to many criticisms, but she continued working to spread moderate Islam, and organized a demonstration against Islamic extremism in Cologne in 2014.

It is worth noting that the young Syrian woman, Lubna Al-Aswad, also won the local youth parliament elections in the city of Batzen.

Who is Lamia Kaddour?

Lamia was born to a Syrian father and mother in the German city of Allen in 1978, and received a master’s degree in Arabic and Islamic studies from the University of Münster in 2003.

She has written a number of books for children and adults, including “A German Muslim, My Path to Contemporary Islam,” “Why Do German Youth Rush to Jihad?” She also founded the Liberal Islamic League in Germany.

Kadour introduced Islamic education into German curricula in 2008, in addition to working as an Islamic education school in North Rhine State.

The award for the most influential Muslim woman in Europe in 2010 in Madrid, Spain.

Integration Medal in Germany 2011.

Honorary title from the state of Schleswig-Holstein in 2015.

Award from the Apple Tree Foundation in 2016 for its commitment to reducing prejudice and promoting interfaith dialogue.

The Green Party, to which Lamia Kaddour belongs, is concerned with refugee issues, as it calls for expediting the processing of pending asylum applications, limiting deportations, and allowing refugee families to be reunited, especially those with subsidiary protection.
