The Minister of Energy in the Lebanese caretaker government, Walid Fayyad, said that Algeria is ready to help Lebanon secure fuel oil for electricity production.
Fayyad pointed out that “the agreement with Iraq will secure us 40 thousand tons, and we must secure 110 thousand tons in order to secure 9 hours of electricity from other countries,” declaring that “the country ready to help us secure fuel oil is Algeria, and I met with the Algerian Foreign Minister. We are preparing for a future visit to Algeria, the issue requires addressing the file of Sonatrach.”
Fayyad stressed, “I am not aware that there is a problem with diesel, unless there is a logistical matter, but there is no problem with supply and demand.”
“We obtained a decision from Electricité du Liban to increase the tariff with an increase in feeding, and we are waiting for the government’s approval of it, and this could be through an exceptional approval by the caretaker prime minister, Najib Mikati,” he revealed.
Lebanon suffers from the problem of securing energy and fuel with the financial crisis that has hit the country since the outbreak of protests at the end of 2019.
