Lebanese Energy Minister: Gulf intentions to enter the oil exploration alliance

On Friday, the Minister of Energy and Water in the Lebanese caretaker government, Walid Fayyad, revealed the desire of the State of Qatar to enter the alliance to explore for oil in the Lebanese Blocks 4 and 9.
Fayyad revealed, in press statements, a Qatari desire to enter the coalition to explore for oil in Blocks 4 and 9, according to Al-Jadeed channel.
“The Qatari desire was received through a letter from the Qatari Oil Minister, Saad Al-Kaabi, in which he announced the intentions of the State of Qatar with the participation of Lebanon in entering the coalition that will explore in Blocks 4 and 9,” Fayyad said.
Fayyad stated that Qatar will become the third partner of “Total” and “ENI” in these two fields, considering this a very important matter, given Qatar’s investment capacity.
Fayyad pointed out that this also came as a result of Qatar’s desire, which it announced through various visits by its ambassador to the ministry, to invest in Lebanon’s economic advancement in the oil and gas sector, in exploration and energy production.
“They sent to the ministry the general managers of the Qatari state-owned company, which is interested in investing in the energy sector and energy production in general,” he added.
The Lebanese minister thanked the State of Qatar for its desire to participate in Lebanon by investing its resources and investing in building the Lebanese economy, he said.
In a related context, Fayyad indicated that a meeting was held with Prime Minister Najib Mikati with members of the Petroleum Administration, after a visit to President Michel Aoun.
Fayyad made it clear that he congratulated Aoun for the “historic achievement” regarding the demarcation of the borders and the consolidation of Lebanon’s right to begin from now on the exploration work in the “Qana” field and other Lebanese blocks, as he put it.
