Minister of Education: There is nothing wrong with teaching the Kurdish language, but it is “optional.”

Education Minister Darem Tabbaa stated that there is no objection for teaching the educational curricula in Kurdish language, provided that it is optional for students and for specific hours.
Tabbaa explained in an interview with Al-Madina FM radio that the ministry has no objection for teaching the curriculum in the languages of ” other nationalities”, but according to specific laws, noting that “the official educational authorities are still fulfilling their obligations towards educational institutions outside the control of the state.” .
Tabbaa said, “We have no objection for teaching in Kurdish and other local languages, and there is no problem in allowing it to be taught in a two-hour week, but not by assignment, but rather freely and for anyone who wishes of any nationality.”
And he added: “But none of the Kurdish brothers asked for that, and in the event of a request, we agree within the framework that it is codified and limited to two hours, as happens in Armenian schools.”
On the reality of the educational situation in schools located in areas controlled by the “Al-Nusra Front” and the armed factions, Tabbaa said that schools in Idlib are taught using “non-Syrian curricula,” adding that the ministry “has not stopped providing the requirements of the educational process inside Idlib, such as salaries and books.” and others, and whoever is not able to take his salary, it is kept for him in Hama so that he can take it when he is able” as he said.
At the end of last year, Tabbaa stated that “there is no objection for teaching the Kurdish language if the Kurds so request”, belittling the schools controlled by the “Self-Administration” in northeastern Syria.
Tabbaa said that the Syrian government is working with “international organizations” to return schools “occupied by the US-backed Qasd militia to the Syrian state.”
And he added, “It is absolutely unacceptable for a non-national curriculum to be taught in these schools because it is an inhumane act,” according to Tabbaa.
