Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan stated that he and Russian President Vladimir Putin gave instructions to start the joint establishment of the “International Gas Distribution Center in Turkey”.
Erdogan indicated during his meeting with Putin, Thursday, that the center will be established as soon as possible, saying: “The most suitable place for him is the European part of the country,” according to the “Russia Today” website.
The Turkish president added: “We have in the Trakya region a national center for gas distribution, and now, after this agreement with Russia, it will become a global center.”
Erdogan considered that his country is a reliable mediator for Russia and other countries, saying: “This trust continues, and we have the goal of being a mediator between East and West.”
In turn, Putin stated that the proposed gas center in Turkey could become a platform for determining the price of gas, which would exclude the politicization of this issue, as he put it.
“Within the framework of the joint work of this center, which we can create together, it will be a platform not only for supply, but also for setting price, because this is a very important issue – the issue of pricing,” Putin said.
The Russian President announced earlier this week that Russia could pump the quantities of gas that Europe lost due to the damage to the “Northern Stream” pipelines to European countries via Turkey.
Putin explained that this would be done through the establishment of a gas center, considering that this proposal has economic feasibility and a high level of security.
