Syrian cumin mixed with Egyptian one and exported to China

Syrian cumin

The Minister of Agriculture, Hassan Qatna, said that Syrian cumin is not exported to China, and that what is happening is that Syrian cumin is brought by a Syrian merchant to Egypt, and from there it is mixed with a quarter of the quantity of Syrian cumin to obtain the aroma and flavor, and three quarters of the Egyptian type is then exported to China.
During his meeting with the official media today, Qatna blamed the marketing problems of the private sector, which is reluctant to invest in this field, while some of them do so in other countries such as Egypt.

He attributed the causes of the citrus problem in the first place to the farmers harvesting citrus before its time, which produced types that did not conform to specifications, which caused the loss of Iraq’s markets. , to be replaced by Turkish and Egyptian production, and indicated that last year’s exports amounted to 164 thousand tons, while this year the quantity is much less.
What Qatna also said was his assertion that 400,000 dunams of agricultural lands had been confiscated, abandoned by their owners in governorates such as Raqqa, Idlib and Deir ez-Zor. He indicated that the owners did not cultivate it, pointing out that the land belongs to the state and must be cultivated, especially with the wheat crop.
Among the ideas that Qatna presented and blamed for putting them on the producers also is the issue of the greenhouses, where he said that the damage to the greenhouses in Tartous in particular is due to their lack of commitment to the manufacture of the hangar within the required specification, such that the area of the house is not less than 425 square meters, and the arch is 4 meters.
And he indicated that there is a two-year deadline to provide support for the damage that affects the greenhouses, after which he will not receive support from those who do not commit to rehabilitating his greenhouse.
Minister Qatana mentioned in his speech that building permits have been completely canceled on agricultural lands since 2014, because permitting construction through government decisions has caused the elimination of a lot of lands as a result of urban expansion.
He added that 200 billion Syrian pounds have been allocated to rehabilitate irrigation networks that were severely damaged in an attempt to rehabilitate the irrigation networks in an attempt to improve the agricultural situation, he pointed out that 60% of agricultural wells were destroyed along with their equipment.
Qatana revealed that Syria cultivates 4.7 million hectares, of which 1.5 million irrigated hectares are cultivated, of which 1,340 million hectares produce 12 million tons, while production from rain-fed crops does not exceed 5 million tons.
