The Minister of WAQF (ENDOWMENT) defends the abolition of the position of Mufti: Correcting a 600-year-old historical error

The Minister of Waqf, Dr. Muhammad Abd al-Sattar al-Sayyid, claimed that the abolition of the Mufti position was correct and corrected a historical error that lasted more than 600 years or more by the Ottomans.
Minister Al-Sayyid explained about the fatwa position that when we talk about the abolition of this position, we must take matters from a legal and historical point of view. Here we must clarify that the fatwa is a statement of the legal ruling for those who ask about it without being obligated. He said, “We are before the subject of the fatwa. Am I talking about the subject of the fatwa or about the position? I must specify.. The legal aspect is concerned with the substance, i.e. the fatwa and its implementation, and is not concerned with the position because the position of the mufti was created by the occupation. The Turkish Ottoman when Sultan Selim entered this country, i.e. this position was newer politically and was not present in all the history and covenants of Islam because it is contrary to the measure and reality of legislation.
Minister Al-Sayed said, “When you are faced with this reality, after this terrorist war, and after the takfiri fatwas were a reason that was exploited and used by the United States of America, “Israel” and the enemies of the country who took these fatwas and became what is called “ISIS, Al-Nusra Front, the Muslim Brotherhood” and others.. In the face of this logic, we go back to the original and do not take the branch.. We do not take what the Ottoman Sultan ordered, but we take what Islam commanded.. Islam said, “And he commanded them to consult among themselves.. He consulted them in the matter, and consequently the position was abolished. A historical mistake that lasted for more than 600 years was corrected. or more by the Ottomans.
The abolition of the position of Mufti in Syria took a lot of controversy, especially after the statement of the Fiqh Council, which responded to the former Mufti Badr Al-Din Hassoun and his talk about Surat Al-Tin and Al-Zaytoun during the funeral of the late artist Sabah Fakhri.
The Ministry of Awqaf prevented the Mufti from calling for the crescent moon and instructed the Fiqh Council to call the call through a session held via Noor al-Sham channel, which sets the date of fasting and breakfast for Muslims.
