The Ministry of Agriculture, in cooperation with the Ministry of Oil, is studying the possibility of granting farmers and agricultural investors an electronic card, with the aim of providing the fuel needed for the agricultural sector, according to Minister of Agriculture Hassan Qatana.
The Minister of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform, Muhammad Hassan Qatana, said that “the government continues to fully support the agricultural sector and its requirements despite the Western economic siege imposed on the Syrian people,” according to what was quoted by the local “Al-Baath” newspaper.
Qatana pointed out the necessity of implementing the electronic card project for farmers and agricultural investors to provide diesel, and for farmers to get their dues from fuel, as “the ministry will study this matter with the Ministry of Oil and Mineral Resources,” he said.
Qatna pointed to follow-up the livestock breeders getting their dues from the fodder, which they did not get due to its unavailability in warehouses, in addition to the need to re-examine the decision issued by the Ministry of Agriculture related to the prohibition of tropical crops in the coastal region due to the presence of other areas that are considered the most successful for this cultivation through preparing a map Specific areas that indicate suitable locations for them to be alternative and supportive crops for the protected crops in those areas.
The Minister of Agriculture’s statements came during his inspection of the reality of the agricultural sector in the countryside of Tartous Governorate, in the areas of Yahmour, Safsafa and Muraqia.
The visit included reviewing the protected crops, wheat, potatoes, vegetables, citrus, tropical crops, and the production stages of seedlings of protected vegetables by vaccination.
