The Syrian Ministry of Culture announced that Heba Tawaji and Osama Rahbani were deprived of singing and holding concerts in Syria throughout their lives, after they canceled two concerts that were scheduled last March.
In an interview with Soriana FM, the Minister of Culture described Tawaji and Rahbani’s apology for their concerts as “a very bad situation”, saying that “she did not imagine that any of the Rahbani family, with their great and ancient history, would be subject to political pressure to cancel the concert.”
Indicating: that the ministry did not ask the two artists to perform the concert at the Opera House in Damascus, “but they were the ones who requested it,” indicating that the request was presented to it and approved “because they are from the Rahbani family.”
Tawaji had previously said through her Instagram account that she decided to cancel the concert after she was surprised that “the newspapers and media outlets dealt with the concert and allowed themselves to enter into conflicts and controversy that she did not choose.”
She added that the world is witnessing an atmosphere of regional tension and major political conflicts, “and they are much larger than us, and as I am part of a team of technicians and musicians, we consulted and decided that the conditions were not suitable for hosting this concert in Syria.”
