The Director of Aleppo Health Directorate, Dr. Ziad Haj Taha, said that the directorate is seeking, during the coming period, to implement new treatments to limit the spread of “leishmaniasis” in the province.
In an exclusive statement to “Hashtag”, Haj Taha pointed out that the number of leishmaniasis cases has recently decreased in the governorate, after more than 30,000 cases were recorded last year.
Among the treatments that the directorate seeks to implement in the face of the spread of the disease and reduce the number of infections, is the treatment with liquid nitrogen, and it is possible to start treatment with ozone, soon, according to him.
The Director of the Aleppo Health Directorate pointed out to follow up on the existing injuries, and provide treatment to the injured free of charge, whether through the specialized health centers or mobile teams.
Haj Taha confirmed that the “glucantime” substance for treating the Aleppo pill “leishmaniasis” is available in the leishmaniasis center, in Al-Furqan, noting that sufficient quantities of the aforementioned medicine, and new batches of the necessary treatment arrive from the Ministry of Health on an ongoing basis.
It is noteworthy that Leishmaniasis is a superficial skin infection caused by Leishmania parasites transmitted by sand flies from an infected organism, whether a human or a rodent, to a healthy person.
In the countryside of Aleppo, the issue of animal husbandry abounds, which would increase the number of injuries, in addition to the issue of lack of attention to matters of personal hygiene.
Leishmaniasis is one of the contagious diseases that are widespread in the world and is present in all continents, and evidence of this is the disease’s endemicity in more than 88 countries in the world, including 76 developing countries, meaning that it is a purely environmental disease, and it is caused by small parasites called parasites. Leishmaniasis, or what is called “Aleppo pus”.
