Zero-emission transportation: Dubai plans to be the city with the lowest carbon footprint in the world

The Emirate of Dubai plans to switch to zero-emissions public transport by 2050, according to a statement by the Dubai Government Media Office, as part of a plan launched by the emirate aimed at leading the global ranking in the green economy.
Dubai announced in 2015 the “Dubai Clean Energy Strategy” to produce 75 percent of its energy needs from renewable sources by 2050.
The Roads and Transport Authority in Dubai has adopted a long-term road map to achieve this goal, and thus it is considered the first integrated road map in the Arab world of this type.
The roadmap consists of three main strategic pillars: green mobility, infrastructure, and the circular economy.
The Emirate of Dubai seeks to be the city with the lowest carbon footprint in the world by 2050 through the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy, which aims to produce 75% of its energy needs from clean sources by 2050.
It also seeks to establish the largest solar power plant in the world from a single site, with a capacity of up to 5,000 megawatts by 2030, with a total investment of 50 billion dirhams (13.61 billion dollars), in addition to establishing a “Dubai Green Fund” with a value of up to 100 billion dirhams $27.2 billion).
The strategy also includes employing an environment-friendly energy mix according to the following percentages: solar energy by 25%, nuclear energy by 7%, clean coal by 7%, and gas by 61% by 2030. The mix will be gradually increased to reach 75% by 2050.
