Government employees threaten an open strike in Nabatiyeh, Lebanon

Employees of public administrations and institutions in Nabatiyeh staged a sit-in in front of the Saraya, threatening to “return to the open strike if their demands for an increase in their salaries were not met and to raise them in proportion to the rise in the price of the dollar.”
The head of the Association of Employees in Public Administrations in Nabatieh, Muslim Obeid, said: “Who is in the interest of destroying the public sector, collapsing public administrations, and not securing the rights of employees? Isn’t the employee entitled to receive a salary that gives him a decent life at the minimum, to educate his children like other sectors, and to receive an education grant that keeps pace with New installments?
“Is it reasonable for the employee to receive a grant to educate his children at a value of only two million Lebanese pounds? Is it possible for the employee to continue serving the citizens, while hospital bills eat up the salary before it reaches the employee’s pocket, and the salary is already suffering in the accounts of the Central Bank and commercial banks?” he added, according to As mentioned by the “Lebanese Bulletin” website.

In turn, a member of the Public Administration Association, Hassan Wehbe, hinted at “a return to the open strike if salaries are not corrected.”
A member of the Public Administration Association pointed out that “the 3-fold increase in salaries does not meet the need for employees.”
“I do not care who receives 8 million to become 18 million, but I care about who receives one and a half million, what does four and a half million benefit him, do not support him for a week,” he said.
“There is something illogical. We are at the end of the month. The productivity they gave us expires, and the attendance allowance is between 150 and 350 thousand according to the category, and this expires at the end of the month, and they have to link the issue of productivity to the dollar and other things are rejected,” he added, according to what the “Lebanon 24” website mentioned.
Lebanon is currently witnessing one of the worst economic crises at the global level, with a continuous recession, where about 80 percent of the citizens suffer from poverty and struggle to obtain food and medicine.
