Fires devour the forests of France: ten thousand citizens to evacuate their homes

The French firefighting authority, Gregory Alyon, said:
Today, Thursday, France is battling a massive forest fire in the Landeras region near Bordeaux.
“I would consider Landeras’ fire to be a gigantic fire,” Alyon told RTL radio. “He’s an ogre, he’s a monster.”
Forest fires broke out in the Gironde region near Bordeaux in southwestern France this week, destroying a number of homes and forcing 10,000 residents to evacuate their homes.
This summer, France witnessed a number of fires that destroyed large areas of forests.
Earlier, wildfires raged in southwestern France, with fire consuming about 100 square kilometers in the Gironde region, up from 73 square kilometers the day before.
Authorities in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine and Gironde provinces said in a statement that more than 12,200 people had been evacuated from the affected area by Saturday morning, while more than 1,000 firefighters were trying to control the fires.
A string of wildfires have erupted in France over the past few weeks, as well as in other European countries such as Portugal and Spain, as temperatures soar.
The flames have subsided around the town of La Teste-de-Buch in the Gironde province, having burned more than 30 square kilometers since the start of the crisis.
In the nearby town of Landeras, where the flames engulfed 65 square kilometers and evacuated 2,200 people, the fires continued to spread through the night, driven by winds gusting from the southwest.
