The Syrian Ministry of Agriculture issued a decision banning hunting of all kinds of game for a period of one year, except wild boar during the hunting season based on the proposal of the sub-council of wild hunting in the province and the approval of the governor.
The reason for allowing wild boar hunting without other game, the Director of Animal Production at the Ministry of Agriculture, Osama Al-Hamoud, told “Hashtag” that it was allowed to hunt this type of animal because it is the most dense in the east and north, and also in the forests of the mountains of the Syrian coast, and the wild boar is characterized by its rapid reproduction, as The number of its young reaches more than ten, and it causes a number of damages to agricultural lands, orchards of fruit trees, vegetable fields and vineyards.
He indicated that in some neighboring countries, such as Lebanon, there are special restaurants that serve wild boar.
It is noteworthy that the decision to ban hunting is valid for a period of one year, starting from February 27 2022 until February 26, 2023.
And Al-Hamoud indicated that the law of wild hunting will be issued soon, to regulate wild hunting, including determining the dates of permitting and prohibiting, and hunting tools that are allowed to be used and those that are prohibited.
He added that the new law will also organize the mechanism for obtaining a hunting license, and a license to possess a hunting weapon, for Syrians and non-Syrians coming for the purpose of hunting, and clarifying the fees involved.
As for the penalties, they will range from 15 days to two months in prison, according to the nature and severity of the violation, while fines range from 200,000 liras to 500,000 liras, which are determined according to the type of violation.
Al-Hamoud pointed out that in the new hunting law, the central council and sub-councils were formed in the governorates, and those councils consisted of the ministries of interior, agriculture, local administration, environment, and defense, and cooperation would be between these ministries to prevent hunting at times that were not permitted in implementation of the law.
