UAE welcomes the extension of the Yemeni armistice and calls for support to adhere to it

Today, Wednesday, United Arab Emirates welcomed the extension of the armistice in Yemen for an additional two months, under the mediation of the United Nations.
In a statement, the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs praised the efforts of the United Nations and its envoy to Yemen, Hans Grundberg, to reach a permanent ceasefire, according to the Emirates News Agency.
The UAE Foreign Ministry indicated that this comes as a prelude to a political solution to the Yemeni crisis, which has torn the country apart since 2015, according to the statement.
The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs called for support for the commitment to the truce, pointing to the “pivotal role” played by Saudi Arabia in achieving stability and security in Yemen, according to the ministry.

extension announcement
And the UN envoy to Yemen, Hans Grundberg, announced, on Tuesday, that the two sides of the Yemeni crisis agreed to extend the truce under the same conditions for two additional months, until the second of next October.
Grundberg said in a statement published by the United Nations website, that the extension includes a commitment by the two parties to intensify negotiations, to reach an expanded armistice agreement as soon as possible.

Armistice details

Armistice includes stopping offensive military operations by land, sea and air inside Yemen and across its borders, and holding a meeting between the parties to agree on opening roads, to improve the freedom of movement of people within the country.
The truce also includes facilitating the entry of 18 ships carrying fuel to the ports of Hodeidah, western Yemen, and allowing two flights to and from Sanaa International Airport per week.

Yemen crisis

For more than 7 years, Yemen has witnessed battles between the “Ansar Allah” group on the one hand, and the Yemeni army of the internationally recognized government backed by an Arab military coalition led by Saudi Arabia on the other.
The conflict in Yemen since its outbreak has claimed the lives of 377,000 people, 40% of whom were directly killed, according to a United Nations report last November.
